Los Angeles, CA- After an extensive coaching search, the Lakers find their potential resolution to their team’s run of playoff shortcomings in 15-year NBA Veteran, JJ Reddick as he and the Lakers agreed to a four-year contract to become the Lakers next head coach per Adrian Wojnarowski. Reddick will become the Laker’s 3rd Head Coach in 3 seasons as they not only try to push the declining window they have with an aging LeBron James but also prepare for without LeBron as he could potentially enter Free Agency.
This hiring comes after a push to acquire reigning NCAA National Champions UCONN Head Coach Dan Hurley but led to Hurley deciding to stay and work on an extension with UCONN to go for another National Championship. After this, Lakers decide to settle with Reddick whom, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, had extensive talks with and who GM Rob Pelinka believes that surrounding Reddick with an elite coaching staff can shorten the learning that comes with being a 1st time head coach.
Reddick brings a modern approach when it comes to coaching as he has been praised throughout social media for his displays of knowledge and modern NBA terminology on shows like First Take as well as with his podcast with the player he will now be coaching in Lebron James on the “Mind the Game” Podcast. This along with his ability to connect with current players given he was recently one three years ago is what sold Pelinka to take that gamble with the former NCAA sensation
This is a hire that the Lakers desperately need to hit on as the seats for Pelinka and even Jeanie Buss are warming up as they gear for a successful playoff run if LeBron does decide to stay.
