New Orleans, La.- The Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans both agreed on a trade this even revolving around guard Dejounte Murray in which the Hawks send Dejounte Murray to New Orleans for a package consisting of Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels and two 1st round picks in 2025 and 2027 respectively according to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski. The 2025 1st round pick came from the Anthony Davis trade which was deferred from this year to 2025 resulting in the Lakers using the 17th overall pick to select Dalton Knecht.
Murray, who has been in the center of trade talks since last off-season, gets a fresh new start with New Orleans who are in desperate need of his offensive firepower with a record of 0-24 when trailing in the 4th according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN to pair with budding superstar Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum. With the Pelicans also trying to get a resolution with Brandon Ingram, Murray becomes a much needed piece in the event of the Pelicans losing Ingram.
In terms of Atlanta, this provides much needed assets for them to either make a move to pair with Trae Young and number 1 pick Zachary Risacher coming off a major down year this season or become the start of a major rebuild if the idea of moving on from Trae Young who has also been in his fair share of trade talks among the league.
Regardless, this trade is something that is to be monitored when it comes to the direction of both teams as free agency is looming right around the corner. Ladies and gentlemen, we’re in for a very interesting summer.
