Bronny James Selected by Lakers in 2nd Round

June 27, 2024

By Carter Rennyson

LeBron "Bronny" James Jr. was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Bronny joins his father, creating the first father-son duo in NBA history.

The James duo joins other famous father-son pairs who have played together, such as Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. in MLB, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in NASCAR, and Gordie Howe with his sons Mark and Marty Howe in the NHL.

Bronny played limited minutes in his lone season at USC due to cardiac arrest suffered during an offseason workout. Remarkably, he worked his way back to full health and appeared in 25 games for the Trojans last season.

Bronny and first-rounder Dalton Knecht join an impressive Lakers roster featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves. The Lakers fell short against the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs and hope to improve next season under new coach J.J. Redick.

Bronny will continue to develop as a basketball player under the tutelage of one of the greatest players of all time and will compete for a roster spot all summer long. While the Lakers may only have LeBron James Sr. for a couple more seasons, they should have Bronny for the foreseeable future.
