Going into the match, Eddie Howe would make only one change to the Newcastle team sheet that started in the draw against Bournemouth last week…

Jacob Murphy would be dropped to the bench to be replaced by Harvey Barnes, as he would take his place on the left-hand side of the attack, as Anthony Gordon would move to the opposite side. Midfielder Sandro Tonali, who was widely expected to start, would start on the bench and make a substitute appearance, as Sean Longstaff would keep his place in Howe’s starting team.

Micky Van de Ven would not be fit enough to make the match day squad whatsoever, so Radu Dragusin would start in his place. Destiny Udogie, however, would still remain fit enough to not only partake in the match, but to keep his starting spot at left back as well. Pape Matar Sarr would start in the midfield, as Dejan Kulusevski would be moved from the midfield into the attack in place of Brennan Johnson, who would be dropped to the bench. Wilson Odobert would start again, but on the right-hand side of the attack instead of the left. Rodrigo Bentancur would be fit enough for inclusion in the match day squad and make a substitute appearance off the bench.

The scoring would open in the 37th minute, as Harvey Barnes would reward the faith of Howe by providing his league goal of the season, by firing in a shot into the back of the net off a cross from defender Lloyd Kelly from the left-hand side. Putting the homeside up 1-0 late on in the first half.

Halftime would see the removal of Pape Matar Sarr for Brennan Johnson in a tactical switch to provide a more attacking team for Tottenham, as they began their search for a goal.

In which in the 56th minute it would pay off, as Newcastle defender Dan Burn in an attempt to clear the ball off the line of the Newcastle goal, would smash the ball into the back of his own net for an own goal. And with that, providing Tottenham the equalizer and bringing them  right back into the match as the score would be leveled at one.

Newcastle would make three changes midway through the second half, as Jacob Murphy would be brought off the bench to replace the first-half goal scorer Harvey Barnes just after an hour played. And then a double change would be made seven minutes later that would see midfielder Sandro Tonali make his long-awaited return to the team in place of Sean Longstaff, along with Lewis Hall replacing Lloyd Kelly at left back.

And it would take just ten minutes from the double change for Newcastle to regain the lead as Alexander Isak would strike once again against Tottenham, as Jacob Murphy would provide the assist to see the Magpies go back in front in the 68th minute and also see out the match winning by a score of 2-1.

This victory would give Newcastle the three points, bringing them up to seven total points won out of nine possible points this season putting themselves level on points with Arsenal in fourth place, but only behind them in goal difference. The Magpies would also see themselves move up the league table into fifth place ahead of Tottenham, as they would see themselves fall down the table into tenth place. And not only from this loss, but because other teams had won their matches this weekend that had been previously sitting below them in the table would see themselves leapfrog above Tottenham in the league table.
