This weekend, the third round of games between the Premier League teams are to play this weekend, as two long-time titans of the Premier League clash with one another on Sunday: Newcastle are taking on Tottenham Hotspur, at St. James Park, on Sunday.
For Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, his record against Tottenham as Newcastle boss remains three wins and two losses against the Lilywhites. The last time these two sides met was this April, where Newcastle ran away as 4-0 winners over Tottenham.
Looking ahead to the match on Sunday, Newcastle, spearheaded by forwards Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in attack, they will look to be a formidable test for Tottenham's defense to deal with. Midfielder Sandro Tonali, who had been suspended for eight months, is expected to mark his return to the side in the midfield, alongside Joelinton and vice-captain Bruno Guimaraes. Defenders Tino Livramento and Lloyd Kelly were rested in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest, and are also expected to return to the starting 11 for this upcoming match.
Howe has other decisions to make too, like whether he will continue to play Jacob Murphy on the right hand side of the attack, or whether to include the likes of Miguel Almiron or Harvey Barnes alongside the duo of Gordon and Isak.
As for Tottenham and manager Ange Postecogolou, the team is expected to remain largely the same as it looked against Everton, without too much rotation. But with defenders Micky Van de Ven and Destiny Udogie potentially not being available for selection, it may cause Postecogolou to change up his team selection at the back. Which could be seen by bringing in the likes of Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies in defense to cover the potentially injured players that may be out of contention for the match at the weekend.
With Dominic Solanke certainly still ruled out with injury, the greatest questions will most likely be as to who starts midfield and up front. As to whether Postecoglou will keep an attack minded midfield trio of Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski. Or if he will change the team around to allow for more defensive security, which could be done by involving the likes of Pape Matar Sarr with Bissouma who formed a formidable partnership in midfield last season for Tottenham.
Forwards Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison, Timo Werner all remain as options to play in the attack alongside the captain and talisman, Son Heung-Min.
Going into the match, Newcastle, currently standing in sixth in the table, just two points behind the Top 4 positions, will be looking to win this match to get back to winning ways.
And as for Tottenham, they sit a place above Newcastle in fifth, who remain level on points with each. However, they remain separated by goal difference. They will look to extend their unbeaten run from their first three games.
What will happen in this clash of these two Premier League sides? Will Newcastle return to winning ways at home in front of their beloved supporters? Or will Tottenham prevail, and continue their undefeated start to this new league campaign?
