NFL Week 9 Power Rankings

October 30th, 2024

By: Jack Weisberg

WEEK 9: POWER RANKINGS!

Rankings are based on each team's current resume through 8 weeks.

32. Carolina Panthers (1-7)

The Panthers are enduring a tough season, with few bright spots aside from rookie Leggette’s success. With hopes dwindling, a strong 2025 draft pick could be their best chance at a turnaround.

31. Tennessee Titans (1-6) ⬇️3

Another team facing a tough season, the Titans have yet to find consistency, especially on offense. Each week seems to bring new challenges, and as expected, they continue to struggle.

30. Las Vegas Raiders (2-6)

The Raiders remain in place this week, with little hope of improvement under offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. With offensive struggles mounting, winning another game this season feels unlikely.

29. New York Giants (2-6) ⬇️3

Dropping three spots after a tough Monday night loss to the Steelers, the Giants’ offense has struggled to find rhythm this season. Despite Dexter Lawrence's stellar year on defense, their lack of offensive production continues to be a major setback.

28. New York Jets (2-6) ⬇️5

The Jets slide down five spots, as protection issues for Aaron Rodgers and contested catches have plagued the offense. Combined with defensive struggles, the team has been unable to establish any real momentum this season.

27. New England Patriots (2-6) ⬆️4

The Patriots climb four spots after a huge divisional win over the Jets, effectively ending any playoff hopes for their rivals. While the offense still needs improvement, this victory gives New England a much-needed morale boost.

26. New Orleans Saints (2-6) ⬇️1

Injuries have derailed the Saints' season, leading to a one-spot drop. With continued struggles on offense and limited roster depth, it may be time for the Saints to look toward the 2025-26 season for a fresh start.

25. Miami Dolphins (2-5) ⬆️4

The Dolphins move up four spots, showing a noticeable improvement with Tua Tagovailoa under center. Despite a loss to the Cardinals, Tua’s impact on the offense has elevated their play to a different level.

24. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6)

The Jaguars hold their spot after a close loss to one of the league’s top teams, the Packers. While they’ve shown resilience, converting these tight games into wins will be crucial for a climb into the top 20.

23. Cleveland Browns (2-6) ⬆️4

The Browns jump up four spots following an upset win over the Ravens, proving head coach Kevin Stefanski still has the team’s confidence. With Jameis Winston stepping in and demonstrating he's simply a better QB fit, they’ve shown they can compete—and even thrive—without Deshaun Watson, reigniting hope for more victories.

22. Dallas Cowboys (3-4) ⬇️4

The Cowboys drop four spots as their season continues to disappoint. With a nonexistent run game and inconsistent defense, they’re falling behind in a division that’s moving forward without them.

21. Chicago Bears (4-3) ⬇️8

The Bears take a significant drop after a close loss to the Commanders. Caleb’s struggle to create plays raised concerns about the offense’s potential moving forward. While an 8-spot drop might seem steep, they currently look like the worst team in their division, with an offense that needs substantial improvement.

20. Arizona Cardinals (4-4) ⬇️3

The Cardinals move down three spots despite a nail-biting win over the Dolphins. While they’ve shown they can compete, they’ll need consistency to capitalize on their playoff potential. Don’t count them out as a possible contender down the stretch.

19. Los Angeles Rams (3-4) ⬆️3

The Rams climb three spots, proving to be the best team under .500 right now. With upcoming opportunities and a healthier roster, they have a real chance to make some noise in the weeks ahead. Their response to this season’s adversity could define their playoff chances.

18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4) ⬇️9

The Buccaneers drop nine spots, as injuries to their two star receivers have significantly hindered their offense. Without these key players, holding onto contender status looks far more challenging than expected.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) ⬇️1

The Bengals drop one spot after a blowout loss to the Eagles, where they lost their offensive rhythm in the second half. Despite flashes of potential, their struggle for consistency continues to hold them back.

16. Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) ⬆️5

The Chargers jump up five spots, showing flashes of their potential. With a talented roster, their success this season will largely depend on how far the coaching staff can take them.

15. Indianapolis Colts (4-3) ⬆️5

Despite a narrow loss to the Texans, the Colts move up five spots. Keeping it close with one of the league’s best teams showcased their potential, especially with Joe Flacco now leading the offense. With Flacco set to remain behind center, this franchise has newfound hope for the season ahead.

14. Seattle Seahawks (4-4) ⬇️3

The Seahawks drop three spots after a blowout loss to the Bills. Their struggles with consistency have kept them at .500, and they’ll need to regroup quickly to remain in the playoff conversation.

13. Denver Broncos (5-3) ⬆️6

The Broncos jump six spots, showcasing strong performances on both offense and defense. At 5-3, they’re gaining momentum and are well-positioned for a serious playoff push.

12. Atlanta Falcons (4-3)

The Falcons have shown promise, but their offense has yet to prove itself against stronger defenses. While they’re in a good position, they’ll need to elevate their play to be considered true playoff contenders capable of making a deep run.

11. San Francisco 49ers (4-4) ⬆️4

The 49ers move up four spots after a decisive win over the Cowboys. This victory highlighted their potential, and if they can maintain consistency, they’re well-positioned for a playoff push.

10. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) ⬆️4

The Eagles climb four spots after a dominant win over the Bengals. With strong performances on both offense and defense, they’re solidifying their place as a top NFC contender.

9. Washington Commanders (6-2) ⬆️1

The Commanders continue to impress, boasting a stout defense as they approach the halfway point of the season. With the Giants and Steelers up next, they have a prime opportunity to keep climbing the rankings and solidify their playoff position.

8. Baltimore Ravens (5-3) ⬇️5

The Ravens slide five spots after a disappointing loss to the Browns. While the performance was below expectations, this feels like a fluke early-season stumble. They’re expected to come back stronger and remain a top contender in the AFC.

7. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) ⬇️3

Following a disappointing loss to the Rams, the Vikings drop out of the top 5. While they have a strong roster, consistency will be key if they want to re-establish themselves as a top contender.

6. Houston Texans (6-2) ⬆️1

The Texans move up one spot, continuing to play well despite injuries to key receivers. Their resilience and strong performances have kept them in the AFC contender conversation, proving they can stay afloat even under challenging conditions.

5. Green Bay Packers (6-2)

The Packers continue to stack up wins, proving they’ll be a serious threat come playoff time. With a strong record and balanced play, Green Bay is positioning itself as one of the top teams to beat in the postseason.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) ⬆️4

The Steelers, this season’s surprise team, continue to exceed expectations, climbing four spots. Now first in the AFC North, they’re putting the league on notice with strong defense and consistent performances.

3. Buffalo Bills (6-2) ⬆️3

The Bills climb three spots as their team continues to come together on both sides of the ball. With a dominant defense and an explosive offense, they’re positioning themselves as a top contender for a deep playoff run.

2. Detroit Lions (6-1)

The Lions have been a powerhouse this season, standing at 6-1. With a strong, balanced roster, they’re proving to be one of the top teams in the league and look well-prepared for a deep playoff push.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (7-0)

The Chiefs remain undefeated at 7-0, showcasing dominance on both offense and defense. With Patrick Mahomes leading the charge, they’re the team to beat this season and look unstoppable as they aim for the top playoff seed.
