Who will the Hawks select with the No. 1 overall pick?

By: Carter Rennyson

The NBA Draft is one week away, and there are still many questions to be answered. The No. 1 pick seems to be a toss-up between two Frenchmen: Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher. However, it is wide open after the first two picks. Let’s break down the top prospects and see how the top ten might shake out.

Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher are the top prospects. Their size, athleticism, and defensive prowess make them coveted selections. Meanwhile, two UConn players, Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle, are rising up teams’ draft boards. Clingan is an athletic center with great defensive instincts and is a dominant scorer in the paint. Castle is a tall guard who can be a great defender in the NBA. His size and strength, as well as his playmaking ability, have made him a possible top-five selection.

Next up, Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham, two Kentucky Wildcats, are freshmen guards who can add scoring to a franchise’s backcourt. Nikola Topic, who is coming off a torn ACL, is one of the top international prospects in this year’s draft. Topic is a great pick-and-roll guard with the size needed to be effective driving against NBA forwards and centers.

Other top prospects include two G-League players, Matas Buzelis and Ron Holland, and college standouts Dalton Knecht, Cody Williams, and Devin Carter.

Here is the current NBA Draft order for the top ten:

  1. Atlanta Hawks

  2. Washington Wizards

  3. Houston Rockets

  4. San Antonio Spurs

  5. Detroit Pistons

  6. Charlotte Hornets

  7. Portland Trail Blazers

  8. San Antonio Spurs

  9. Memphis Grizzlies

  10. Utah Jazz

Will this look the same come Wednesday night? Or will some other NBA teams make some moves into the top-ten? We'll have to wait and see.
