Ladies’ Singles
Tomorrow morning, Jasmine Paolini will face Barbora Krejcikova in the Wimbledon singles final. Paolini is coming off her first major championship final at the French Open, where she lost to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Krejcikova, aiming for her first Wimbledon title, won her lone singles major at the 2021 French Open.
Italian-born Paolini has ascended the rankings this past season, establishing herself as one of the top players in the world. At 28, she has the chance to become the third Italian woman to win a Grand Slam title and the first to triumph at Wimbledon.
Krejcikova is an accomplished doubles player with seven Grand Slam titles. Despite her success in doubles, she has only made three quarterfinal appearances in major singles tournaments since her 2021 victory. In this tournament, she capitalized on early exits by top seeds and defeated former major champions Jelena Ostapenko and Elena Rybakina to reach the final.
It promises to be a close match. The two have faced each other only once before, in a qualifying round of the Australian Open in 2018. This time, they will compete in front of a much larger crowd on one of tennis' biggest stages.
Gentlemen’s Singles
It's official….we have a rematch! Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will meet to play for the Wimbledon title on Sunday morning in London. Alcaraz won last year’s final in five sets for his first Wimbledon title, while Djokovic looks to avenge that defeat and win his record-tying eighth Wimbledon title.
Alcaraz got past Daniil Medvedev after dropping the first set to reach the final, while Djokovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets to reach his 10th Wimbledon final. Alcaraz and Djokovic have played five times, with Djokovic leading the matchups 3-2.
Alcaraz has dropped a set in his last four matches, while Djokovic has only dropped two sets the whole tournament. Like the Ladies’ Singles Final, this matchup will be close. This one seems destined to go to five sets. It will be interesting to see how Djokovic’s knee holds up, as he is coming off surgery back in June.
Last year’s final was a classic, and this year should be just as exciting. The young Spanish phenom looks to continue his rise to superstardom, while Djokovic aims to make history and stay relevant in the twilight of his career. Tune in Sunday morning for an all-time classic at The All England Club.
